Qualifier Daria Kasatkina would upset the sixth-seeded Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff would move on, and much more at the 2020 J&T Banka Ostrava Open.

Singles Results

Veronika Kudermetova (q) vs. Donna Vekic

In the first match of the day, qualifier Veronika Kudermetova would face Donna Vekic. In the opening set of their match, Kudermetova would break Vekic’s serve twice, winning five games in a row at one point, to take the set 6-2.

In the second set, Kudermetova would get two more breaks of Vekic’s serve, in the fifth and ninth games, to take the set 6-4 and win the match 6-2, 6-4.

Elena Rybakina (6) vs. Daria Kasatkina (q)

In the opening set of qualifier Daria Kasatkina’s match against Elena Rybakina, down 0-2, Kasatkina would win six straight games to take the set 6-2.

In the second set, Rybakina would manage to break Kasatkina’s serve three times to take the set 6-3 and force a third set. In the decisive third set, Kasatkina would get two breaks to take the set 6-3 and win the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Shuai Zhang vs. Karolina Muchova

In the first set of Karolina Muchova’s match against Shuai Zhang, Muchova would come out firing, winning the first four games in a row before taking the set 6-1.

In the second set, she would win the first three games in a row before eventually taking the set 6-1 to win the match 6-1, 6-1.

Dayana Yastremska vs. Jennifer Brady

In the opening set of Dayana Yastremska’s match against Jennifer Brady, Yastremska would break Brady’s serve twice, in the fifth and ninth games, to take the set 6-3.

But, in the second set, each player would manage to break the other’s serve once en route to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Brady would prevail, 8-6, to take the set 7-6 (8-6).

In the third set, Brady would dominate, only dropping a single game to take the set 6-1 and win the match 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.

Katerina Siniakova (wc) vs. Coco Gauff (q)

In the opening set of qualifier Coco Gauff’s match against wildcard Katerina Siniakova, Gauff would get four breaks of Siniakova’s serve to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, she would only need one break, in the tenth game, to take the set 6-4 and win the match 7-5, 6-4.

Barbora Strycova vs. Ons Jabeur

In the opening set of Ons Jabeur’s match against Barbora Strycova, Jabeur would manage to break Strycova’s serve twice, in the first and fifth games, to take the set 6-2.

In the second set, she would get three breaks, in the first, fifth, and seventh games, to take the set 6-2 and win the match 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles Results

E.Mertens / A.Sabalenka  (1) vs. J.Maleckova / C.Skamlova  (wc)

In the first match of the day, the top-seeded team of Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka would take on the wildcard team of Jesika Maleckova and Chantal Skamlova.

In the opening set of their match, down 0-4, Maleckova and Skamlova would win six out of the next seven games to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, with the set tied at one, Mertens and Sabalenka would win five straight games, the last at love, to take the set 6-1 and force a third set tiebreak.

In the third set tiebreak, Mertens and Sabalenka would prevail, 10-5, to win the match 5-7, 6-1, 10-5.

K.Flipkens / D.Schuurs  (4) vs. L.Hradecka / A.Klepac

In the first set of Kirsten Flipkens and Demi Schuurs’ match against Lucie Hradecka and Andreja Klepac, Flipkens and Schuurs would win the first five games in a row before taking the set 6-1.

In the second set, down 0-5, they would win seven straight games, the last at love, to take the set 7-5 and win the match 6-1, 7-5.

N.Kichenok / M.Niculescu vs. A.Friedsam / R.Olaru

In the opening set of Nadiya Kichenok and Monica Niculescus’ match against Anna-Lena Friedsam and Raluca Olaru, Kichenok and Niculescu would get two breaks of their opponents’ serve to take the set 7-5.

But, in the second set, each team would manage to break the other’s serve three times to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Friedsam and Olaru would prevail, 7-3, to take the set 7-6 (7-3) and force a third set tiebreak.

In the third set tiebreak, Kichenok and Niculescu would come out on top, 10-5, to win the match 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 10-5.

A.Blinkova / V.Kudermetova vs. M.Linette / J.Teichmann

Anna Blinkova and Veronika Kudermetova would be forced to forfeit their match against Magda Linette and Jil Teichmann today.
