Iga Swiatek vs. Sofia Kenin (4)

In a matchup between the scorching hot, World No. 54 Iga Swiatek and the 2020 Australian Open Champion Sofia Kenin, the two would battle for a maiden French Open Championship.

To start the match, Swiatek looked solid, holding her serve at love before breaking Kenin’s serve and consolidating with another hold to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

Still, the American wasn’t going to give up easily, winning three games in a row herself, breaking Swiatek’s serve once, to tie the set at three.

But, Swiatek would win the next two games back-to-back, both games in deuce, to take a 5-3 lead and get the chance to serve for the match.

Nevertheless, Kenin would get another break of Swiatek’s serve in the next game to bring the set to 4-5 and get a chance to serve to stay in it.

However, Swiatek would break at 15 to take the opening set 6-4 and put the pressure on Kenin.

To start the second set, after losing a deflating opening set, Kenin would come out firing, breaking Swiatek’s serve at 30 to take a 1-0 lead and get off to a good start.

In the second game, Swiatek would do the same, breaking Kenin’s serve at 30 to tie the set at one. In the following game, Swiatek would hold her serve easily to take a 2-1 lead.

Down 1-2, Kenin would take a break to tape her leg. Once she returned, Swiatek would continue her impressive play, breaking Kenin’s serve and holding her own at love to take an authoritative 4-1 lead.

In the next game, she would have no issues breaking Kenin’s serve, dismantling her at love, giving herself a chance to serve for the championship at 5-1.

Serving for the championship, Swiatek would look more posed than your average 19-year-old. And, despite a solid effort from Kenin, Swiatek would get the hold to take the set 6-1.

With this, Iga Swiatek would defeat Sofia Kenin to win the match 6-4, 6-1 and her maiden Grand Slam at the 2020 French Open.
