Simona Halep (1) vs. Karolina Pliskova (2)

The 2020 Italian Open Women’s Singles Championship would pit the top-seeded Simona Halep against the defending champion Karolina Pliskova.

In the opening set of their match, Halep would get off to a strong start by immediately breaking Pliskova’s serve and holding her own to take a 2-0 lead.

However, soon, it would become apparent that Pliskova wasn’t at full strength as Halep would win the next four games straight to take the set 6-0.

In the second set, Halep would once again immediately break Pliskova, but Pliskova would respond by breaking Halep’s serve back.

But, after another break from Halep in the following game, down 1-2, Pliskova would decide to retire and forfeit the championship due to injury.

With this, Simona Halep would reign victorious as the 2020 Italian Open Women’s Singles Champion.
