Singles Results

Anna Blinkova (q) vs. Karolina Pliskova (2)

In the first singles match of the day, the second-seeded Karolina Pliskova would take care of business in straight-sets against qualifier Anna Blinkova.

In the opening set, Pliskova would get two breaks of Anna Blinkova’s serve to take the set 6-4. In the second set, she would get two more breaks to take the set 6-3 and the match 6-4, 6-3.

Danka Kovinic (q) vs. Elise Mertens (11)

The eleventh-seeded Elise Mertens would get a solid straight-sets victory today against qualifier Danka Kovinic. In the opening set, down 0-3, Mertens would win six out of the next seven games to take the set 6-4.

In the second set, Mertens would get two breaks of Kovinic’s serve to take the set 6-4 and the match 6-4, 6-4.

Elena Rybakina (10) vs. Yulia Putintseva

Yulia Putintseva and the tenth-seeded Elena Rybakina would do battle today in their match. In the opening set, Rybakina would get three breaks of Putintseva’s serve to take the set 6-4.

In the second set, down 2-5, on the brink of defeat, Putintseva would win four out of the next five games to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Putintseva would prevail, 7-3, to take the set 7-6 (7-3).

The decisive third set would see Putintseva breaking Rybakina’s serve twice to take the set 6-2 and the match 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

Simona Halep (1) vs. Dayana Yastremska

Top-seeded Simona Halep would take care of business in straight-sets today against Dayana Yastremska to move on to the quarterfinals.

In the first set of their match, down 0-3, Halep would win seven out of the next nine games to take the set 7-5. In the second set, Halep would win the first three games consecutively before taking the set 6-4 and the match 7-5, 6-4.

Garbine Muguruza (9) vs. Johanna Konta (7)

In a match between two seeded players, 2020 Australian Open Finalist Garbine Muguruza would get the best of seventh-seeded Johanna Konta in straight-sets.

In the opening set, Muguruza would only need one break of Konta’s serve, in the tenth game, to take the set 6-4. In the second set, Muguruza would win the first three games consecutively before taking the set 6-1 to win the match 6-4, 6-1.

Victoria Azarenka (se) vs. Daria Kasatkina (q)

During a tiebreak in the first set, Daria Kasatkina would be forced to retire due to injury, granting Victoria Azarenka the victory.

Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Elina Svitolina (4)

In the first set of fourth-seeded Elina Svitolina’s match against Svetlana Kuznetsova, each player would manage to break the other’s serve once on their way to a tiebreak.

In the tiebreak, Svitolina would win, 8-6, to take the opening set 7-6 (8-6). In the second set, Svitolina would get two breaks of Kuznetsova’s serve to take the set 6-4 and win the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.

Polona Hercog vs. Marketa Vondrousova (12)

In the last singles match of the day, Polona Hercog, who defeat the fifth-seeded Kiki Bertens in her last match, would take on the twelfth-seeded Marketa Vondrousova.

In the opening set, Hercog would dominate Vondrousova, breaking her serve three times to take the set 6-1. In the second set, Vondrousova would answer by getting three breaks of her own to take the set 6-1.

In the decisive third set, each player would break the other’s serve once en route to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Vondrousova would prevail, 7-5, to take the set 7-6 (7-5) and win the match 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

Doubles Results

S.Aoyama / E.Shibahara  (7) vs. A.Muhammad / A.Rodionova

In the first doubles match of the day, the seventh-seeded team of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara would get a swift victory over the team of Asia Muhammad and Arina Rodionova.

In the opening set, Aoyama and Shibahara would win six straight games, two at love, to take the set 6-0. In the second set, they would get four breaks of their opponents’ serve to take the set 6-3 and the match 6-0, 6-3.

A.Friedsam / R.Olaru vs. M.Linette / B.Pera  (alt)

In the opening set of Anna-Lena Friedsam and Raluca Olaru’s match against alternates Magda Linette and Bernarda Pera, the latter team would get two breaks of serve to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, the two pairs would combine for eight breaks of serve en route to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Friedsam and Olaru would prevail, 7-4, to take the set 7-6 (7-4).

In the decisive third set tiebreak, Friedsam and Olaru would win, 10-8, to take the match 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.

S.Hsieh / B.Strycova  (1) vs. V.Kudermetova / K.Siniakova  (6)

The top-seeded doubles team of Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strycova would get the best of the sixth-seeded team of Veronika Kudermetova and Katerina Siniakova in straight-sets today.

In the opening set, each team would get one break of the other’s serve on their way to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Hsieh and Strycova would win, 7-5, to take the set 7-6 (7-5).

In the second set, Hsieh and Strycova would get two breaks to take the set 6-4 and the match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

L.Hradecka / A.Klepac vs. H.Carter / L.Stefani

In the last doubles match of the day, the team of Hayley Carter and Luisa Stefani would narrowly defeat the team of Lucie Hradecka and Andreja Klepac.

In the opening set, both teams would have trouble holding serve, combining for six service breaks, en route to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Hradecka and Klepac would prevail, 7-5, to take the set 7-6 (7-5).

In the second set, Carter and Stefani would get two breaks of their opponents’ serve to take the set 6-4 and force a third set tiebreak.

In the third set tiebreak, Carter and Stefani would edge out Hradecka and Klepac, 10-8, to win the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-8.
