US Open ATP Day 8 Recap

Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem would cruise to the quarterfinals, Alex de Minaur would pull through against Vasek Pospisil, and much more at the US Open.

US Open ATP Day 8 Results

Singles Results

Vasek Pospisil vs. Alex de MinaurĀ (21)

In the opening set of Canadian Vasek Pospisil’s match against the twenty-first-seeded Alex de Minaur, each player would look solid.

To start the match, neither player would drop a single game on their serve en route to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, despite falling behind early, de Minaur would prevail, 8-6, to take the set 7-6 (8-6).

In the second set, de Minaur would dominate, breaking Pospisil’s serve twice to take the set 6-3. In the third set, de Minaur would finish the match by getting two more breaks to take the set 6-2 and the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, 6-2.

Felix Auger-AliassimeĀ (15) vs. Dominic ThiemĀ (2)

The second-seeded, and now tournament favorite, Dominic Thiem would defeat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime with ease today.

In the first set, each player would break the other’s serve once on their way to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Thiem would prevail, 7-4, to take the set 7-6 (7-4).

In the second set, Thiem would get two breaks of Auger-Aliassime’s serve to take the set 6-1. In the third set, he would get three breaks and take the set 6-1 to win the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, 6-1.

Matteo BerrettiniĀ (6) vs. Andrey RublevĀ (10)

In four sets, the tenth-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev would get a huge win against the sixth-seeded Matteo Berrettini today.

In the opening set of their match, Berrettini would only need one break of Rublev’s serve to take the set 6-4. In the second set, Rublev would answer back by getting a break of Berrettini’s serve to take the set 6-3.

In the third set, Rublev would follow his impressive second set with another 6-3 set victory. In the fourth set, Rublev would finish the match off by getting a break to take the set 6-3 and the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Daniil MedvedevĀ (3)

The third-seeded Daniil Medvedev would waste no time dismantling American Frances Tiafoe in their match today. In the opening set, Medvedev would get two breaks of Tiafoe’s serve to take the set 6-4.

In the second set, Medvedev would get three breaks to take the set 6-1. In the fourth set, Medvedev would get even more impressive, not dropping a single game en route to a 6-0 set victory and a 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 match victory.

Doubles Results

J.Murray / N.Skupski vs. M.Pavic / B.Soares

Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares would pull off a tough match today against Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski. In the first set of their match, Pavic and Soares would get two breaks of their opponents’ serve to take the set 6-2.

In the second set, each team would hold their serve all the way to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Pavic and Soares would prevail, 7-4, to take the set 7-6 (7-4) and the match 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

J.Rojer / H.Tecau vs. R.Bopanna / D.Shapovalov

Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau would get the best of Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov in straight-sets today. In the opening set, Rojer and Tecau would only need one break of serve to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, they would once again get one break and take the set 7-5 to win the match 7-5, 7-5.
