UTS 2 Championship Day Recap

Some epic Final Four matches, a women’s championship match that went the distance, and much more from UTS2 and the women’s UTS.

UTS 2 Championship Day Results

Alexander Zverev vs. Corentin Moutet

In the first Final Four match of the second Ultimate Tennis Showdown, Alexander “The Lion” Zverev and Corentin “The Tornado” Moutet would face-off.

In the first quarter of their match, the top-seeded Zverev would get out to an early lead by defeating Moutet 17-12. In the second quarter, “The Tornado” would fight back and tie the match at one quarter apiece by ousting Zverev 12-10.

In the third quarter, “The Lion” dug his claws in and repeated his first quarter result, 17-12, against Moutet to gain a 2-1 quarter lead.

Headed into the fourth quarter, Corentin “The Tornado” Moutet was tasked with a tough win or go home quarter against Zverev. Sadly, Moutet couldn’t force the fifth quarter and would fall short 11-13.

With this, Alexander Zverev would win the match, 17-12, 10-12, 17-12, 13-11, to claim his place in the championship match.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs. Richard Gasquet

Despite being the lower-seeded of the two semifinalists, Richard Gasquet’s UTS Final Four experience helped propel him to an early lead against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Gasquet would take the first quarter against Auger-Aliassime, 19-14, to put the pressure on “The Panther”. But, Felix would answer by winning the next two quarters 16-12 and 20-12.

With a victory in his sights, Felix Auger-Aliassime would close out Richard Gasquet, 23-7, in the fourth quarter.

With this, Felix Auger-Aliassime would win the match, 14-19, 16-12, 20-12, 23-7, to claim his place in the championship match.

Alexander Zverev vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime

In the men’s championship match, a rematch between Alexander “The Lion” Zverev and Felix “The Panther” Auger-Aliassime, it would be Zverev getting out to a fast start.

In the first quarter, Zverev would defeat Auger-Aliassime easily, 19-10. In the next two quarters, Auger-Aliassime would battle back and win 13-11 and 18-11 to take a 2-1 quarter lead.

In the fourth quarter, Alexander “The Lion” Zverev would win 18-8 to force a decisive fifth quarter. In the decisive fifth quarter, Alexander Zverev would win 2-1 to take the championship 19-10, 11-13, 11-18, 18-8, 2-1.

Women’s Ultimate Tennis Showdown Results

Alize Cornet vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Despite being the underdog coming into the match, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did not shy away from the big stage on Sunday.

Pavlyuchenkova would take the first quarter from Alize Cornet, 16-8, to prove she was ready to play. In the second quarter, Pavlyuchenkova would narrowly take a two quarter lead by winning 12-11.

Still, Cornet would not back down and would take the third quarter, 14-11, to force a fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Cornet would win 16-9 to force a decisive fifth quarter.

In the decisive fifth quarter, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova would win 3-1 to win the championship 16-8, 12-11, 11-14, 9-16, 3-1.
