World TeamTennis Day 2 Recap
Day 2 of the 2020 World TeamTennis Event had some more great tennis from players from around the world and had a tight match between the Kastles and Empire.

World TeamTennis Day 2 Results
Vegas Rollers d. Orlando Storm (24-15)
Sam Querrey vs. Tennys Sandgren
Holding serve games was no problem for these two Americans today. Both Sam Querrey and Tennys Sandgren held their serve all the way to a tiebreak.
In the tiebreak, Tennys Sandgren would come out on top 5-3 to win the match 5-4 for his team.
Monica Puig vs. Danielle Collins
In the women’s singles match, Monica Puig and Danielle Collins would combine for three breaks of serve.
Puig would be responsible for two of these breaks and with that, she would win the match 5-3.
Asia Muhammad / Mike Bryan vs. Darija Jurak / Tennys Sandgren
After starting the match off with a break of their opponents’ serve, Asia Muhammad and Mike Bryan held their own to take a 2-0 lead.
But, Tennys Sandgren and Darija Jurak would do the exact same thing in the next two games to tie the score at 2-all. Still, Muhammad and Bryan would end up winning the match 5-3.
Asia Muhammad / Kristie Ahn vs. Darija Jurak / Jessica Pegula
Although both teams would combine for three breaks of serve, only one could come out on top in the end.
And, that would be Asia Muhammad and Kristie Ahn, defeating the team of Darija Jurak and Jessica Pegula 5-3 to help their team.
Bob Bryan / Mike Bryan vs. Tennys Sandgren / James Ward
In the last match of the first competition of the day, the Bryan Brothers would come up big as they usually do.
Bob and Mike Bryan would defeat Tennys Sandgren and James Ward 5-1 to help their team greatly.
Washington Kastles d. New York Empire (21-20)
Marcelo Arevalo vs. Jack Sock
In the first match between Marcelo Arevalo and Jack Sock, both players would hold their serve until the fifth game when Arevalo would break Sock.
From there, each player held their serve and Arevalo would win the match 5-3.
Bernarda Pera vs. Kim Clijsters
Although she hasn’t quite made a successful comeback to the WTA Tour, Kim Clijsters looked to be ready to play today at World TeamTennis.
Clijsters would only need one break of Pera’s serve to win the match 5-2.
Arina Rodionova / Marcelo Arevalo vs. Neal Skupski / Kveta Peschke
Both teams in this match had no trouble holding serve, with the teams combining at one point to hold three straight serve games at love.
But, in the end, Neal Skupski and Kveta Peschke would win 5-4 against Arina Rodionova.
Bernarda Pera / Arina Rodionova vs. Kim Clijsters / Kveta Peschke
In the women’s doubles match, holding serve games would once again prove to be key for both teams.
In the eighth game, the duo of Bernarda Pera and Arina Rodionova would break Kim Clijsters and Kveta Peschke to win the match 5-3.
Nicholas Monroe / Marcelo Arevalo vs. Neal Skupski / Jack Sock
In the last match of the second competition of the day, both teams would hold their serve all the way to a tiebreak.
In the tiebreak, the team of Nicholas Monroe and Marcelo Arevalo would win 5-3 to win the match 5-4 and win the competition for their team.
Philadelphia Freedoms d. Orange County Breakers (25-16)
Sofia Kenin vs. Jennifer Brady
The 2020 Australian Open Women’s Singles Champion, Sofia Kenin, wasted no time gaining a 4-0 lead on fellow American Jennifer Brady.
But, Brady would fight back to win the next three games against Kenin to pull the score to 3-4. Still, Kenin would win the next game to take the match 5-3.
Taylor Fritz vs. Steve Johnson
In the last match of the day, it would be rising American star, Taylor Fritz, pitted against veteran American tennis player, Steve Johnson.
A break to start the match would be all Fritz needed to secure a 5-3 victory for his team.
Fabrice Martin / Taylor Townsend vs. Andreja Klepac / Luke Bambridge
To start the last competition of the night, Taylor Townsend and Fabrice Martin would immediately break Andreja Klepac and Luke Bambridge’s service game.
From there, both teams would hold their serve and Townsend and Martin would win the match 5-3.
Fabrice Martin / Taylor Fritz vs. Steve Johnson / Luke Bambridge
During the men’s doubles match, both teams would hold their service games all the way to a tiebreak to decide the winner.
In the tiebreak, the duo of Fabrice Martin and Taylor Fritz would come out on top 5-4 to win the match 5-4.
Caroline Dolehide / Taylor Townsend vs. Andreja Klepac / Jennifer Brady
In the last doubles match of the day, Caroline Dolehide and Taylor Townsend would come up big for their team.
The duo would defeat their opponents, Andreja Klepac and Jennifer Brady 5-3, while breaking their serve three times.
