THIEMS7 Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the THIEMS7 Tennis Tournament saw players begin to qualify for the semifinals, some great matches, and a highly-anticipated match between Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev.

THIEMS7 Day 2 Results

IFA Group

Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Casper Ruud

After a tight opening to the first set where neither player was going to budge on their serve, Jan-Lennard Struff finally broke Casper Ruud in the ninth game to go up 5-4. Struff would close out the set 6-4 to take a one set lead.

In the second set, despite a great effort from Ruud, Struff would win the set 6-4 to take the match 6-4, 6-4.

Dominic Thiem vs. Andrey Rublev

After Dominic Thiem started the match off with a break and a hold to go up 2-0, Rublev answered with three straight game wins to get himself back in the set.

Both players would defend their serves well for the rest of the set until Thiem broke Rublev in the eleventh game en route to winning the set 7-5.

In the second set, Thiem would break Rublev in the seventh game and that would prove to be enough to win the set 6-4 and the match 7-5, 6-4.

Matteo Berrettini vs. Roberto Bautista Agut

In the first set of this match, Matteo Berrettini broke Roberto Bautista Agut in the seventh game and that would be all he needed to win the set 6-4.

In the second set, Berrettini came up in a big way, breaking Bautista Agut twice en route to cruising to a 6-3 set victory. With this, Berrettini won the match 6-4, 6-3 and secured his place in the semifinals.

Karen Khachanov vs. Dennis Novak

Dennis Novak had his way with Karen Khachanov on Day 2 of the THIEMS7 Tennis Tournament. In the first set, Novak only allowed Khachanov to win one game as he cruised to a 6-1 victory.

In the second set, Novak broke Khachanov in the fifth game and that would be all he needed to win 6-4, as each player held their serve the rest of the way. With this, Novak would win the match 6-1, 6-4.
