WTA Tour 2020 Prediction: The Year Of The Youngsters

What To Expect: WTA Tour 2020

The new competitive season is getting closer and tennis experts have already chosen their favorites for 2020 Grand Slams tournaments. According to many, 2020 will undoubtedly be a very exciting year on the WTA circuit. Many of the players in the Top 100 are eager to prove their talents in Grand Slam tournaments, and many veterans are looking to cement their legacies. Just like 2019, epic matches are expected to be plentiful in the upcoming season.

Who To Watch: WTA Tour 2020

Here at The Tennis Advocate, we believe that Ashleigh Barty, Bianca Andreescu, and Naomi Osaka are the three players to watch in 2020. The only person standing between them and Grand Slam victories is Simona Halep. Halep won Wimbledon in 2019 and has proven that she can win at any level on any surface. Additionally, Serena Williams will likely get her last chance to win her elusive twenty-fourth Grand Slam title this year. This will not be an easy feat to achieve.

Impactful Players: WTA Tour 2020

Belinda Bencic is ready to have a breakthrough season in 2020. The Swiss player finished eighth in 2019, winning Moscow and losing in the semi-finals of the US Open. Not to mention that she’s only twenty-two years old, even though it feels like she’s been on the tour for many years now. Other possible surprises could include Karolina Muchova, Sofia Kenin, and Donna Vekic. Furthermore, Angelique Kerber, Sloane Stephens, and Garbine Muguruza will attempt to climb back to where they were just a few years ago.

The Olympic Games Effect: WTA Tour 2020

2020 is an Olympic year and this could very well affect the WTA rankings. This is because some players will try to reach peak form for the games, which occur just a few weeks before the US Open. Simona Halep has already revealed that her biggest goal this year is an Olympic medal. On top of this, we are sure that Monica Puig, Angelique Kerber, and Petra Kvitova will all focus on returning to the winner’s podium.

Grand Slam Predictions: WTA Tour 2020

For the Australian Open, The Tennis Advocate believes that Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu will be the top contenders. At Roland Garros, Simona Halep is the favorite to win due to her success at the tournament. Then, at Wimbledon, Barty and Andreescu should once again compete well, with Naomi Osaka also having a great chance. Finally, at the US Open, The Tennis Advocate believes Bianca Andreescu will repeat her championship run of 2019.

Year-End No. 1 Prediction: WTA Tour 2020

At the end of 2020, The Tennis Advocate believes that Ashleigh Barty will not repeat as the world number one. The pressure to defend a lot of points at every tournament will be too much for Barty. On the other hand, Bianca Andreescu and Naomi Osaka both looked very good in 2019 and will compete for the year-end number one in 2020. Simona Halep would also have a great chance, but considering that she will be focusing on the Olympics, we don’t see her as much of a threat. The Tennis Advocate predicts that Bianca Andreescu will reign as the 2020 WTA Tour year-end number one.
